The season’s shift is in the air. Students are heading back to school, teachers are preparing for the year ahead, and we as herbalists start thinking about our fall and winter remedies for change, weather transition, and supporting immune systems. We stock our herbal apothecaries and home pantries with herbal teas, tinctures, and keep ingredients like garlic and honey on hand all the time. To us, digestion, stress management, good sleep, and supporting healthy immune systems are the pillars of a successful school year.
As you and your family transition from summer activities, into the regular routines of home and school life, it’s a good time to take the health of your family into your own hands.
Here are a few of our go-to herbal remedies:
Hit the Hay: Get the deep rest you need and get back into the school night routine with the support of this tincture blend that helps you relax and settle in for cozy slumber.*
Hit the Hay features time-tested herbs- passionflower, kava, California poppy, and hops, used to promote relaxation on the occasional sleepless night.*
Suggested use: 5 ml (1 tsp). Can repeat a second time one hour later if necessary.
Reishi with Rooibos & Orange Peel by Traditional Medicinals: Grounding, adaptogenic and supportive to the immune system this makes for the perfect balanced cup of tea for teachers and parents during this busy season!*
Enjoy 2-3 cups per day.
Calm Tummy Bitters: Our favorite on-the-go remedy for upset bellies, whether it be from nervous jitters, or some indigestion after lunch. The aromatic pairing of chamomile and ginger helps to soothe and calm occasional upset stomachs and support healthy digestion.*
We keep this handy travel spray in our lunch bags, that way it’s always near.
Suggested use: Enjoy approximately ¼ teaspoon (1.2 mL) of our bitters before or after meals or as needed. Up to 6x/day.
Immune Tonic: Our favorite herbal tonic that combines immune-toning herbs and medicinal mushrooms to support healthy defenses and optimal immune function.*
When the weather changes and the boogers come back, we start up the Immune Tonic. It’s best to take this formula daily during the school year to maintain a healthy immune system.
*As a school teacher, this is a great one to keep on your desk, to remind yourself to stay supported.
Suggested use: 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) 2 to 5 times per day.
Echinacea Plus by Traditional Medicinals®: Echinacea is one of herbalism’s most heroic plants—a great herbal ally to take when you feel like you need it most. Boost your immune system and keep your body healthy with this mildly minty and slightly citrusy tea.*
Enjoy 5-6 cups per day as needed for wellness. This tea is especially good with local raw honey!
Immune Zoom: When adults or children are trapped together indoors, it’s a good idea to practice self-care so that you are prepared for any challenges. Immune Zoom is our go-to when we need a gentle boost to support our immune response. The time-trusted herbs like echinacea and elderberry, and supportive herbs like ginger and cayenne offer support when you need it most.
Suggested use: 5 ml (1 tsp) up to 6 times per day.
Plants are great supportive allies to keep your health on track. We encourage you to stock the kitchen pantry as being prepared is the best way to keep yourself healthy during this busy time of year.
