DIY Mood Drinks and Tonics

Care for yourself this winter with these mood lifting beverages.

Joy Chai

A warming and uplifting winter beverage to soothe the spirits and uplift your mood. Mindfully let go of tension, and make room for love and gratitude. A perfect one for a Valentine!

Recipe: (makes 2 servings)

  • 1 inches fresh, grated ginger root
  • 
1 tbsp whole cardamom pods
  • 
1 tbsp whole, black peppercorns
  • 
1 tbsp fennel seeds

  • 1 tsp whole cloves

  • 3 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 star anise

  • 2 sticks licorice root
  • 1-2 tbsp rose petals 

  • 1-quart liters fresh water
  • 2 teaspoons Urban Moonshine Joy Tonic ( 1 per each cup of chai)
  • Add cream and honey to taste

Combine the spices and water in a pot on the stovetop and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and let simmer for 10-15 minutes covered. Remove from heat and strain through a tea filter or cheesecloth. Pour into mugs and add cream and honey to taste.
Stir in 2 teaspoons of Urban Moonshine Joy Tonic, and enjoy!


Adaptogen-Spiked Mocha with Simmer Down Tonic

A calming, adaptogenic latte that helps to deeply replenish and restore the nervous system.

The combination of energizing cacao and maca and adaptogens like ashwagandha and tulsi make for a nice balance of herbal actions.  Mood-brightening and deeply nourishing, treat yourself to this delightful beverage.

Recipe: (makes 1 serving)

  • 2 espresso shots/ 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 1 tbsp. cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp. maca powder
  • 1 tsp. Urban Moonshine Simmer Down Tonic
  • ¼ cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup.
  • A large dollop of whipped cream.
  • Dash of cinnamon powder

Warm the almond milk and hot coffee on the stove top. Transfer to a blender and add the powders, maple syrup, and Simmer Down Tonic, blend on high for 1 minute.
Serve hot and top with whipped cream and cinnamon.

*Extra add-ins:

  • 3 tablespoons soaked cashews- makes it extra creamy and blend well when soaked.
  • Replace maple syrup with a Medjool date, pitted before blending.
