Joy is Citrus Cake & Adaptogen Lattes

Creative ways to use herbs.

Here in the Northeast, we have settled into a cold winter. The freezing temps and whipping wind have us hunkered down near the woodstove, finding little reason to leave home. With that, and another year living through a pandemic, our nerves have certainly taken one for the team. It is a time to dig deep into the reserves and find things to fill our cup.  Rest and nourishment, healing foods, warm drinks, cozy wool slippers, good books, hot baths, and herbs that spark joy.*

Herbal Tea Party

I’ve been finding deep solace in adaptogens, their nourishment and replenishing nature, and the sense of ease and calm that I get from regularly using them in my routine. Simmer Down Tonic® is a nervous system tonic made with calming adaptogens which promote a mellow mood and soothe nervousness and irritability. Additionally, adaptogens help protect the body from the depleting effects of stress and enhance your experience of general health and well-being. Simmer Down is the perfect supportive ally if you find yourself worn out and frazzled. * Use 5 ml (1 tsp) up to 2 times per day.

I’ve been enjoying this tonic in caffeine-free herbal lattes as a mid-day pick-me-up. This one features warm oat milk, raw cacao, and hints of cashew butter, cinnamon, vanilla, and some floral notes from the tulsi found in Simmer Down.

Citrus Olive Oil Cake and Adaptogenic Lattes table

I hosted a group of girlfriends for an herbal tea party the other day and spared no expense, because, why not? We deserve to treat ourselves as much as the ones we love. And it is often these simple things that bring the most amount of joy. Afternoon tea, citrus cake, herbal lattes, sunlight streaming through the windows, good company, and conversation.

Find the recipe for our Citrus Olive Oil Cake here. Recently, I discovered baking this in a bunt pan. A selection of my favorite pans can be found here.
